Privacy Policy

Youth Network for Social & Environmental Development (YONSED) is a non-governmental organization based in Nepal. We care about the privacy of the people who visit this website and get in touch with us, and we have tried to write this policy plainly rather than defensively.

It covers this website only. It does not cover other organizations' websites or services that we link to, or information you give us in person, by post, or through any channel outside this site.

We collect very little, and almost all of it is information you choose to send us.

Information you give us

When you submit the contact form, we receive the details you enter in it: your name, your email address, your phone number (optional), a subject, and your message.

Information received automatically

This website is served to you by a hosting provider. Delivering a page involves handling technical information about your request — such as your IP address and browser information — so that the page can reach your browser. Hosting arrangements for this website are not yet finalized, and this policy does not describe how any particular provider handles or retains that information.

Separately, when the contact form is submitted, your IP address is used briefly to limit how many messages can be sent from the same place in a short period. This is a safeguard against automated abuse. It is held in the server's memory only, is not written to our database, and is not used to identify or profile you.

We do not ask for sensitive personal information through this website, and we would rather you did not include any in the message field.

We use what you send us in order to:

• read and respond to your enquiry;
• keep a record of the correspondence so we can follow it up properly;
• understand what people are contacting us about, so we can improve how we respond.

We do not sell your information. We do not share it for advertising, and we do not use it to send you marketing messages you did not ask for.

When you submit the contact form, two things happen:

• your submission is saved to our database, so that YONSED staff can see it in our restricted admin area;
• a notification email is sent to the organization, so that we know a message has arrived. The details you entered are included in that notification so we can read and reply to it.

If you then correspond with us by email, that exchange is handled by ordinary email services in the usual way.

The form also contains a simple check intended to catch automated submissions. It is not a cookie, and it does not track you.

Contact form submissions are stored in a database provided by Supabase. Access to them is restricted: the database will not serve them to the public website at all, and they can be read only through our password-protected admin area, by authorized YONSED personnel.

The website's published material — project pages, documents, brochures and images — is stored with the same provider. That material is public by design and contains no visitor information.

The services we rely on operate infrastructure that may be located outside Nepal. We mention this so that you know where your information goes; it is not a guarantee about any particular location or arrangement.

We rely on a small number of third-party services to run this website. Each handles information only to the extent needed to do its job.

• Supabase — provides the database that stores contact form submissions and the website's published content, and provides the sign-in used by our restricted admin area.
• Resend — delivers the notification email that tells us a contact form message has arrived, including the details you entered in the form.
• Our website hosting provider — serves these pages to your browser and handles the request information needed to do that. Hosting for this website has not yet been finalized; this policy will be updated to name the provider once it is.

Each of these providers has its own privacy practices, which we do not control.

It is YONSED's policy to retain contact form enquiries for no longer than 12 months.

We may keep an enquiry for longer where there is a reasonable need to — for example, if we are still corresponding with you, if it relates to an ongoing project or partnership, or if we need to retain it for administrative or legal reasons.

The public pages of this website do not use advertising, analytics, or marketing cookies, and we have not added any third-party tracking to them.

Authentication cookies are used for YONSED's restricted administration area, to maintain the sessions of authorized staff who sign in to manage the website's content. They are not used for advertising or analytics.

This site does embed a Google map showing where our office is: a small one in the footer of every page, and a larger one on the contact page. Those maps are loaded from Google, which may therefore receive information about the request as part of serving them. What Google does with that is governed by Google's own privacy policy rather than this one.

This website does not currently use any analytics or visitor-tracking service. We do not measure your visit, build a profile of you, or follow you across other sites.

If we introduce analytics in future, we will update this policy to say so.

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information handled through this website. These include restricting contact form submissions so they cannot be read from the public website, requiring authentication for the admin area, serving the site over an encrypted connection, and validating and rate-limiting what the contact form accepts.

No website, and no method of transmitting information over the internet, can be completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and we would ask you not to send anything highly sensitive through this website.

This website links out to other sites and services, including our social media pages, our map listing, and resources referenced in our work. We are not responsible for the content or the privacy practices of sites we do not operate.

When you follow a link away from here, it is worth reading the privacy policy of wherever you arrive.

This website is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly seek personal information from children through this site.

If you believe a child has sent us personal information through the contact form, please contact us at info.yonsed@gmail.com so that we can review the information and take appropriate action.

We may update this policy from time to time — for instance, if we change how the website works or which services it depends on. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page, and the current version will always be the one published here.
